それを知った聖ニコラウスは、その家族を助けるためにこっそりと窓から金貨を入れた袋を投げ込みました。
その金貨は、娘が暖炉の横に干していた靴下に”すぽんっ”と入ったのだそうです。
そのお金で娘3人は幸せに結婚することができました。
この伝説が語り継がれて、やがてサンタクロースは暖炉やベッドにぶら下げられている靴下にプレゼントを入れるようになったのだそうです。
