We received a nice present from a customer🧺 They are baskets and coasters for small items, made from the waste ‘rings’ that are inevitably produced during the sock-making process.
The customer had attended our Christmas workshop before and had just visited us the other day and asked to share the waste materials with her friends so she could make them again ✨
The staff are still learning how to make the baskets, so we can’t explain how they are made, but once you get used to it, it takes about an hour, and they use about 180 rings to make it! We are very impressed with the beautiful workmanship!
We hope to hold some fun workshops and events in our shop again 🌾
On 13 February, our president appeared in a phone-in interview on tbc radio in the Tohoku region.
Our president appeared in a telephone interview on the ‘Weekly SDGs Recommendations’ corner of the ‘GoGo Hamimikoi Radio Na Mood’ program on 13 February.
The SDGs have 17 goals, and I spoke about Goal 12 “Responsibility to Create, Responsibility to Use”.
Suzuki Socks started by manufacturing children’s socks and later entered the sports socks market.
In the past, the company also manufactured stockings for the Japanese national football team and still produces many football stockings for the J-League through sports manufacturers.
In 2004, the company combined its experience as a farmer with its knowledge of sock production and embarked on the development of ‘rice bran socks’.
Rice bran fiber is made by kneading rice bran components into rayon fiber, which has properties such as moisture retention, antioxidant properties, and deodorant functions.
The development process was driven by our president’s passion for the reuse of rice bran, and after numerous trials and errors, the first socks using rice bran fiber were born.
Today, approximately 200,000 pairs are produced annually, using approximately 900 kg of rice bran annually.
In the future, the company aims further to expand the potential of this unique rice bran fiber and communicate its appeal both domestically and internationally.
Thank you to everyone at tbc radio for listening to the radio.
Yesterday, members of the Nara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women’s Association visited Suzuki Socks. They had a tour of the factory and watched a video about the president’s passion for rice bran and the story of its development ✨
While holding the products in their hands at the shop, they said, “I want to recommend these products to my acquaintances! We also had a lot of happy comments such as “I want to recommend it to my friends”.
We hope you will feel free to come and visit us again while you are at work or having lunch.

Suzuki Sock’s Sock Making -Manufacturing Suzuki Socks-
The essence of manufacturing has remained unchanged…
Suzuki Socks was established in Nara in 1958. We have continued to make history by manufacturing and selling mainly “rice bran fiber” products from Miyake-cho, Nara, the smallest town in Nara Prefecture, where socks are produced. We are delighted and grateful for the support of our many customers. Under the slogan “Good products for a long time”, we aim to create products that make our customers feel “excitement” and “a little happiness”.
Suzuki Socks does not have many state-of-the-art machines like other companies. Some of the older machines have been working hard for nearly half a century. There are also many skilled craftsmen, reliable staff working on developing new products, and staff who support us. Sometimes we modify old-fashioned machines, and with a lot of ingenuity, we are pursuing the creation of products and comfort that will impress our customers.
We will continue to work daily to deliver good products to our customers in the future.
Socks that have been carefully packaged and processed from product to product are inspected to ensure that they do not contain needles, in case they do. The processed socks are then passed through a needle-inspection machine to check for any abnormalities. The socks are delivered to the customer with safety and security.

Every year in Nara, the Wakakusa Yaki, a traditional event that heralds the early spring in the ancient capital of Nara, is held. This year, it will be held this Saturday, 27 January: ⛰️ The Shinto and Buddhist shrines of Kasuga-Taisha, Kofuku-ji, and Todai-ji will unite to pray for the repose and comfort of the souls of their ancestors, as well as the prevention of fire throughout Nara and peace for the people of the world.
On the day of the festival, various events will be held, including a torchlight procession and the Nogami Shrine Festival, as well as a deer cracker-tossing competition. Come and see Nara’s winter traditions 🦌.
